The stories “Being Prey” and “A Sound of Thunder” have many similarities and differences. One story is set in a modern era and the other is set in a future/prehistoric era. The theme is “Always listen to the person in charge.” One difference between the two stories are the time periods. “Being Prey” is set in a modern Australian era. For example the story says “The 14-foot canoe sat in the water, just a few inches of fiberglass,” People didn’t have fiber glass in older times. “A Sound of Thunder” is set in a future and prehistoric era. For example the story says, “In the Past,” past would mean prehistoric. Also it says, “A real Time Machine,” Time Machines haven’t been built in the modern age therefore they are in a futuristic era. The conflict in “Being Prey” is how Plumwood got attacked by an alligator and was stranded. The story says, “Then I was seized,” Plumwood has been attacked by the alligator. The story also says, “Many miles from help,” now Plumwood is stranded. The conflict in “A Sound of Thunder” is that Eckels messed something up in the past which messed things up in the present. The story says, “Was a butterfly, very beautiful and very dead,” Eckels has stepped on a butterfly in the past. The story also says, “The sign had changed,” Eckels has messed up the present just by stepping on the butterfly in the past. One similarity between the two stories is the theme. The theme in “A Sound of Thunder” is “Always listen to the person in charge” Eckles is told not to go off the path in the past and does which messes stuff up in the present. The theme in “Being Prey” is “Always listen to the person in charge” Plumwood is told not to go into the main current but she does and gets attacked by an alligator. The themes of both stories are the same. In conclusion both stories have many similarities and differences. Listening to the person in charge isn’t always the best choice but most of the time it is. In both stories the main characters are told not to do something but they end up doing it
