In the room that I observe in at Denton City County Day School the classroom environment is strategically set up where the teachers are able to see everything in the class. Isenberg and Durham (2015) suggest that a room should be arranged so that the teacher is able to see and hear what is happening in any part of the room. When you walk in the door the teacher’s desk is in the far-left corner of the room at an angle. There are no cubbies or shelves to obstruct the view of the tables where the children sit, or the different centers where the children play. As the teachers sit at the desk they are still able to keep an eye on the children and make sure that everything is in order. The only thing the teachers are not able to see fully is the restroom, but fortunately they have a system to where if the children need to use the restroom one of the teachers stands next to it and monitors them. …show more content…
One of the things that can be done in a classroom to promote belongingness is to display children’s work (Isenberg & Durham, 2015). When you walk into the classroom, every wall has some kind of artwork done by the children. On the left wall, I saw that the teachers have a special bulleting for the children where their artwork is put up on display. Hanging from the ceiling there were small solar systems that the children made. One of the times I went to observe one of the little boys pointed up to one of them and proudly said that he had made it. On the far back wall there are birthday cakes with the students name and birthdate. By displaying their artwork it allows each child to feel unique and to feel like they belong in the
