Benefits Of SLE Lupus

When I was diagnosed with SLE lupus in 2011, I was handed a brochure about this chronic illness and the first word I read was disease. At first, the emotions I felt were confusion and grief because I had no knowledge about lupus. After two kidney biopsies and many doctor’s visits, I began researching on my own and asking questions about my test results. I became an activist for myself and other lupus patients in the United States and through knowledge and support from doctors, family, friends, and Old Dominion University community. Today, I am able to bring awareness to others and support to those recently diagnosed with SLE lupus. This enormous amount of knowledge and support from others has lead me into the helping field of Speech Pathology
