Civics Essay How would you feel if a right you were given since around the time of the birth of America was taken away? The second amendment, the right to bear arms, has benefited America and her people for a very long time. This amendment allowed people to have ownership of firearms to due a multitude of tasks. They allowed people to hunt with firearms, provide protection to them and their family, and allowed shooting to become a type of sport. Some people may say that thanks to the second amendment people have been able to commit acts of crime such as shooting up a school or to possibly harm someone for selfish reasons. My first reason why I believe the second amendment is beneficial is that it allows people to hunt for food using firearms. There are people in America that rely on hunting as their main method to get meat for their protein needs, according to Statistics Brain around 22 million Americans hunt for small to big game. If someone was to break into your house you would be able to use a firearm to protect you, your family, and your property. If a country were to invade America, they would not have to fight just the army, but America’s citizens as well. I believe that these two reasons of how firearms can provide protection are a good way to deem the second amendment an important amendment. Some people may argue that thanks to the second amendment people have been allowed to carry out mass shootings. Many shootings occur when people have made up their mind on doing what they are about to do. If firearms were made illegal a lot would not change because if they want to hurt people they will find a way to do it. Sure, if firearms were made illegal some of the more minor threats would not happen, but people that caused the big headline shootings would either find a way to get ahold of a firearm or use a different weapon
