On November 9' 1731 Benjamin Banneker was born in Ellicott's Mills, Maryland. He was born to Mary and Robert Bannaky. His father was an ex-slave, making Benjamin free when he was born. He has three sisters but their names are unknown. He also has a wife but her name is also unknown. (2) That's all the family I could find that was related to Benjamin. As he got older, Benjamin Banneker was self-educated in mathematics and astronomy. He also wrote multiple mathematical poems. Even though he is not well-known he is still a very important figure who is not very well-known, but he made a big impact on today's life.

And because of that he falls into Jackie Robinson's nine values. Which are courage, determination, teamwork, persistence, integrity, citizenship, justice, commitment, and excellence. Robinson used these values to help him become a major lead baseball player. Bannaker falls under pretty much all of them. Just to get to where he was planning to go. Benjamin fought over and over for his work to be published. When he finished his first book of astronomy, he couldn't find anybody to publish it. But by the time he did they told him that his calculations were too old to be published! So he had to start all over.
After years of starting over and writing new books he finally found somebody to publish all of his books. Which he was really proud of. Just knowing that his work was out there for people to see. Especially since he was an African-American. Then the prejudice time came, so Banneker wrote a letter to Thomas Jefferson. He had wrote to him about how racial discrimination was wrong and it needed to stop. One of the consequences from racial discrimination was why Banneker couldn't get his books published.
