Benjamin tallmadge is in the video games assassins creed 3 as well as the hit tv series Turn Washington's spies. Alexander Rose said he had, “a disconcerting habit of cocking his head like a quizzical beagle.” . He is overlooked in america's history but he actually helped out a lot in the turnout of the war and without him we might not have won the war.

Early life

George Washington recognised his skill in spying and the rest of the culper ring so he appointed benjamin tallmadge as the head of the continental army's secret service. From then on George Washington had a strong connection with benjamin and they often sent messages to each other.

Orion- They even had such a good connection George Washington promoted Benjamin to a major. In 1778 Tallmadge was appointed director of military intelligence. Most of the spies in the culper ring were childhood friends of benjamins (like abraham woodhull like we said earlier.)

Mark- Benjamins spy ring had prevented a british fleet from sailing to rhode island in july of 1780 because it would have stopped plans for the french to land 6000 troops at newport. The goal of this was to gain control of the hudson river and lure George Washington's army into battle. At the time Benjamin Tallmadge was at this camp and got caught in the battle. Washington moved his troops to new york.Clinton’s units pushed into Westchester County in southeastern New York and raided towns on the Connecticut coast.

Mark- Later on Colonel Elisha Sheldon had to leave and Benjamin Tallmadge raised up to lead the second dragoons. Locally soon Moylan’s fourth dragoons were soon to arrive And tallmadge was sent to see if theses new troops arriving were american or british. On his way to see this Tallmadge ran into some redcoats and they fought. tallmadge said “the onset was violent”. The second dragoons beat the british redcoats. After this Tallmadge continued to fight with the second dragoons

Orion- To make sure their messages weren’t intercepted and translated benjamin made a series of translation codes. His first code made was within the first few months of the culper ring was a pocket dictionary that used numbers and letters to translate to words. Some of these dictionaries had 763 number to word translations and they had letter to another letter translation to write words that weren't in the dictionary. Another way that spies could keep secretive ways they used code names. Benjamin’s code name was John
