Berkley believed that an object existed as long as it was being perceived. To exist and to be perceived meant the same thing to the philosopher. Although Berkley provided great arguments supporting his believe, I don’t think that it’s a common-sense view. It is hard to comprehend the fact that the matter or an object doesn’t exist when we are not perceiving it.
Berkley believed that everything we see around us - tables, chairs, flowers, trees, etc. exist only in our mind. According to the philosopher, ordinary objects are nothing more than ideas that do not have physical existence in the world.
