Bernie Sanders was born on September 08, 1941 in Brooklyn, New York. Bernie Sanders, which is short for Bernard Sanders, is currently living in Burlington, Vermont. He lives in Vermont with his wife, Jane O’Meara. After 16 years as Vermont’s sole congressman in the House of Representatives, he was elected to the U.S. senate. Bernie Sanders is currently a United States Senator from Vermont and is also a democratic candidate for the upcoming 2016 presidential election. Bernie Sander’s platform includes some topics which he believes he can fix. The three major issues that Bernie Sander’s believes in are debt free and free college tuition, a raise in minimum wage, and income and wealthy equality. Bernie Sanders wants every student who works hard in school to go to college regardless of how much money their parents make and without going deep into debt. Bernie believes that full-time workers should not live in poverty, because of the low minimum wage they are receiving. He insists on increasing the minimum wage from 7.25 dollars to fifteen dollars an hour. To raise the minimum wage into a living wage he is going to do the following: propose a national fifteen-dollar minimum wage, introduce the Workplace Democracy Act, and be a strong collaborator with unions. Bernie also wants woman to be equally paid as a man for doing the same job, because he is a supporter of the Paycheck Fairness Act. The Paycheck Fairness Act according to his website is, “A proposed legislation to help close the gap between men’s and women’s earnings in the workforce.” He also has encouraged Obama’s administration to make sure that workers get overtime pay, because millions of employees work 50 to 60 hours a week and do not get overtime pay.
