Some people think that things in life will come easy however this is false. With hard work and determination anything is possible. The hard work and grit needed to be a quarterback (QB) in high school is what Mike lupica demonstrates in QB1. Jake cullen works hard to develope his QB skills. Staying after practice, his limited playing time and watching hours of film every week, Jake clearly demonstrates that with hard work and determination anything is possible. Being the son of the second greatest QB in granger high school history, and the younger brother of the best QB in granger high history, expectations put on jake are high and his goal to be the starting QB at granger seems unachievable. Jakes coach, coach jessup says “Let’s me and you have a game of catch” (lupica, 24). One day after practice although coach convinces him to stay jake still stays after practice to work on his throwing, to get better. This shows that with hard work and determination anything is possible because he works hard to get better at QB. “coach McCoy tells me even your brother didn't spend as much time in the movies as you” (lupica, 236). This shows my theme because the coaches even see that he is dedicated. Also when he tells the coach “I told you, I want to learn”(lupica, 237). This is showing that he had the grit to keep going and that it means something to him. Casey the person Jake is competing against for the starting QB spot said that hes not ok splitting time and QB and all jake said was “I'm gonna keep putting in the work and let the coaches decide” (lupica, 200).
