Shakespeare uses themes that are as relevant today as they were in Shakespearian day. Othello's themes relate back to the intricacy of betrayal, love and jealousy. These emotions overcome Othello and lead him to committing the biggest crime of passion. Othello himself is fully aware of the expectation to prove himself to his fellow Venetian’s and sees his own racial identity as unworthy and undesirable. This lack of confidence allows Iago to easily influence Othello’s thoughts and convince him that Desdemona is being unfaithful.
