Betsy Ross and Abigail Adams are alike and different in many ways. Although they are both remarkable women, they are, however, remarkable in many different ways, and similar in others. Differences, or similarities in consideration, they both played huge roles in American history. One way they were different is how the way grew up. Growing up Betsy and Abigail lived very different lives. Betsy born in Pennsylvania, Philadelphia; while Abigail was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts. Another way they were different is how many siblings they grew up with. Betsy had 17 brothers and sisters, and Abigail only had 4 siblings. One way they are similar is both women married, but Betsy married multiple times, and Abigail only married once. Betsy’s first husband was Mr. John Ross, she met him at her first job, an upholstery business, and he later died in a gunpowder explosion. Joseph Ashburn, a sailor, who became her second husband, and they were married for five years. Together, they had two daughters. Later, Ashburn was killed after being imprisoned by the British. Josh Claypoole, also a prisoner of the British, became her third and final husband. They had 5 daughters together, and were married for 34 years. She became a widow after he died of ill health. Betsy may have had three husbands, but Abigail had only one very significant husband; Mr. John Adams, the second president of the United States. The couple was married for 54 years, they had five kids together, but only two of them lived to adulthood. One of which was the sixth president of the United States, John Quincy Adams. Even though these ladies are very similar in ways, they are still very different. One way they are different is what they are known for. Betsy was known for knitting the United States first flag. After meeting with these three men George Washington, Robert Morris, and George Ross. Unlike Betsy, Abigail is known for being the wife to John Adams, a mom to John Quincy Adams, but also for being the 2nd United States First Lady. Abigail wasn’t just a wife, mom, and a first lady, but she was also a civil rights activist. In conclusion, Betsy and Abigail are very different, but still similar in some ways. These two women were great wives and mothers; but also made history. They will forever be
