Who designed the flag of the United States? Some people believe it is Betsy Ross, but if they look a little deeper they will realize she had nothing to do with creating the flag. In this report you will learn many new things on the flag. There wasn't really a certain way for anything to be placed. That was until June 24,1912 when President Taft ordered for the stars to be arranged in a certain way. The first official flag had 13 stars and 13 stripes. The amount of stripes on the flag has always remained the same. The only thing that really changed was how the stars were placed and how many of them there were. A new star is added every time a new state is added to the Union and that star will be placed on the flag on July 4th. The very last time that there was a new star added to the flag was on July 4, 1960, when Hawaii joined the Union.

There are very specific rules when it comes to the flag. Everything is supposed to put a certain way. For example when there is a speaker the flag should always be on the right of the platform. The flag is usually only flown during the day time, but on special occasions it is flown at night too. When the flag is flown at night it must be lit.

When the flag is being raised at sunrise it must be raised quickly and when being lowered at sunset it must be lowered slowly. The flag shouldn’t be displayed during bad weather. Also, all people who are present when the flag is being lowered or raised they should stand at attention to it and also salute it. Lastly, the flag should never touch the ground.
