In the book, Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys, the quote “The commander pulled out a pistol and shot Ona in the head.” (Sepetys 101), is a very important quote throughout the story. This quote explains how rough the commanders are. Before Ona died, she was going through a lot when her baby got sick and also died. After a while, the commanders decided to shoot her since she was useless and would not stop crying and whining. Her baby also ended up being thrown out of the window. Lina and her family should learn from this because they are trying to stay alive for as long as possible and they do not want anyone getting hurt.
