Dr. King played an important role in gaining Civil Rights for African Americans, and gave many avid speeches to support this cause. He believed strongly in what he said, and backed up his ideas with thorough evidence and clear claims. In his speech titled, “Beyond Vietnam--A Time to Break Silence,” he builds his argument to persuade his audience that American involvement in the Vietnam War is unjust by using techniques like diction, Ethos, and well-researched examples.

King applies to his speech is the use of prominent, relevant sources and examples. The quote from paragraph four states, “In 1957 when a group of us formed the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, we chose as our motto: “To save the soul of America.”” This exhibits how Dr. King backs up his claims with strong, reliable evidence that supports what he is saying. He gives his point, and then reveals what that point it is about, what he thinks about that point, and how it is important to the mean idea of his speech. Being able to provide quality evidence through claims in speech is another persuasive technique Dr. King uses in his speech to make it appeal to his audience.
During his speech titled, Beyond Vietnam--A Time to Break the Silence,” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. builds his argument to persuade his audience that American involvement in the Vietnam War is unjust by using diction, Ethos, and well-researched examples. Dr. King was passionate about everything he said and used his words to do great things. He learned how to use persuasive techniques to get through to his audience and format a better speech. Dr. King played an important role in African American and American history, and his speeches show
