America’s favorite dad, Bill Cosby, has recently been accused of raping multiple women in various places, like Las Vegas, a celebrity tennis tournament, the Cosby Show, and many other locations (Coates 4).These serious allegations towards a highly respected entertainer has caused an uproar in the black community. Ta- Nehisi Coates, an Atlantic national correspondent, responds to this controversial issue in his passionate article “Bill Cosby and His Enablers”. He relates this article to the general population of African Americans by referencing black entertainers and cases of violence against black people. Coates argues that the acceptance of Cosby’s behavior is accredited to the unjust criminal system, people ignoring brutality, the legitimacy narrative for the oppressors, and the crippling strength of the powerful against the powerless. Introducing various cases that pushed the envelope for integration in the Civil Rights movement would be sufficient. He could discuss Brown vs. Board of Education and other cases that bombarded the justice system with the segregation problem. After this constant upheaval, there was a form of change for the expectation of school. In the same way, an emergence of lots of cases dealing with rape and demanding justice could cause change. Another major component of the legislative part is the legislators who would hear these cases. He could demand a push for political science education for minorities. These educated citizens can be future politicians and legislators that can evoke change directly in the justice system. More minority legislators would result in more adherences to issues of rape and other brutality because of a heightened awareness of its presence in their own
