Being told as a Christian that I’m going to be watching an atheist movie for the next three class days really frustrated me but, within the first five minutes of watching this documentary, I became extremely focused and interested in what Bill Maher was trying to prove by making this movie. This documentary addresses several religions: Christianity, Scientology, Islam, Mormonism and etc. Throughout this documentary, Bill Maher travels around the world interviewing a wide range of religious leaders and followers. During these interviews, Bill questions the different religions on a jokingly matter.
Sadly, Bill interviews a priest who is a self-appointed doctor, a man who plays Jesus at the Holy Land theme park, a Muslim extremist British rapper (who doesn’t understand what he’s even talking about), a man who is a reformed homosexual, and a man who claims to be descended directly from Jesus. There are very few experts on religion that were interviewed, but they’re mainly used to back up what Maher is saying. Bill Maher devoted so much time with ignorant people and not enough time spent with people that actually know their religion. During several occasions Maher is filmed in the car talking about the interviews, which very much gives him the final word and allows him to humiliate and ridicule the individual’s beliefs once the individual is not there to respond anymore. Maher was also extremely rude towards the interviewers throughout the documentary. He would interrupt them while they were talking and would use subtitles; belittling them. By doing this, the entire documentary and camera crew acts in an unprofessional
