Billie Joe Armstrong is a founding member of the band Green Day. He is famous for his music, looks, and outlook on life. Billie Joe Armstrong was born on February 17, 1972 in Oakland, California. Billie is the youngest of six Kids. He grew up middle class with his mother, Ollie Jackson and his father, Andrew Armstrong. His five siblings were named David, Alan, Marci, Hollie, and Anna. His mother was a waitress and his father was a truck driver and a jazz drummer making them part of the working class and having to support six children. In 1976 Billie and his family moved to Rodeo, California. Rodeo was a dull working class town dominated by a grand oil refinery. There was really not much to do in Rodeo, especially for kids. Billie remembers seeing a wall in Rodeo spray painted saying Bore-deo. Billie eventually wrote a song about the intense boredom he experienced there called “Christie Road” (Billie Joe Armstrong’s Life Story.wmv and @shortbiography).
Billie’s family was a very loving family eating dinner and having fun together. Billie and his father were very close, always playing music together and just having fun. During high school Billie was already starting to pursue his career in music. On his eighteenth birthday, Billie dropped out of high school to put all his effort into his musical career. Billie, Mike, and two of their friends formed the band Sweet Children in 1986. This didn't last long and in 1989 the group changed their name to Green Day. It isn't certain why they chose this name but many people think that it has something to do with their first pot experience.
