The life of college student has it’s up and down, one day were stressing over midterms and papers and then the next day we relieve that stress with non-stop drinking from Thursday to Saturday. Students say they are “struggling” and have no money, even though this is true for some, but they do not look at the fact on how much money they spend on alcohol. According to an article “How Much Do College Students Drink?” by 12 Keys Rehab, out of the 17 million college students we have 8.5 million of them are binge drinking. Binge drinking has reported $163 billion spent on alcohol according to 12 keys of rehab. When a student drinks alcohol they do not just spend it on alcohol, they spend money on food. There are early signs of alcohol abuse and it begins at low levels of drinking and it will tend to increase over time. Students are usually more prone to being vulnerable to alcohol use because in college alcohol is used a lot in a social format. For example, one may drinking when playing games or watching movies with friends. There are risk factors that can affect a person if alcohol is abused for a long period of time. Alcoholism is the general phrase to use when alcohol consumption is abused for a long time. The word is characterized as an increased tolerance of and physical dependence on alcohol, and it will result in a person not being able to control alcohol consumption in a safe manner. During alcohol consumption alcohol will travel into the stomach; here some is absorbed into the bloodstream. Whatever alcohol is not absorbed will continue to travel into the gastrointestinal tract. Once in the gastrointestinal tract, alcohol will eventually be absorbed into the bloodstream once again but it is absorbed through the wall of the small intestine. There is also a possibility that the alcohol can remain in the stomach, which causes irritation. When alcohol is in the stomach it is considered an irritant and it will increase certain digestive juices such as hydrochloric acid according to both Baylor University and College Drinking Prevention. The hydrochloric acid is secreted from the lining of the stomach, and large amounts of alcohol can create a decrease in the function of the digestive system. This process results in the body being stripped from vital minerals and vitamins. Also, severe irritation in the stomach can lead to the lining of the stomach to erode. Kidneys are directly affected by prolonged consumption of alcohol, which can have a direct effect on the liver and cause liver disease. The kidneys control the rate of blood flow and filters the blood in order to produce urine, which is composed of “waste” things that our body is trying to get rid
