Saddam Hussein was born and raised in Tikrit by his widowed mother. He joined the Ba'ath party in 1957 and was trying to assassinate the priminister of the time. The Ba’ath party failed but Hussein was in luck and escaped. When. he was founf the court sentenced him to death ,but, he fled to Egypt. While in Egypt he continued his education and politics… he entered a law school in Cairo in 1962.
6 years layer his party had grown stronger so he returned to Iraq but faced imprisonmeant. he escaped from prison and continued his Ba'ath activities he significantly helped the party. Later on he became vice president, Hussein had a fair amount of power in the government while being noted for political repression and violating human rights. When President Ahmed Hasan al-Bakr resigned in 1979 Hussein became president.
From 1980–88 he led a war against Iran, fueled by extremely important religious differences between Shi'ite and Sunni muslims.( two groups of muslims with two fifferent Islamic/ancient pasts) Two years later he invaded Kuwait but failed by Arab and Western armies and was forced to retreat. Then he violated the peace terms of the Gulf War.
In 2002, President Bush identified Iraq as part of an “axis of evil” and began calling for “regime change” to bring down Saddam Hussein.
Years later and a large number of attacks resulted in nine months on the run, the former Iraqi president was was captured in December 2003 by U.S. troops on farm near Tikrit, his hometown.
