Argumentative essay Some kids grow up, they’re abandoned by their families and most of them end up on the streets homeless. They have no one to guide them or to even teach them right from wrong. So now these kids make decisions for themselves, and they aren’t always the best decisions because it leads them into becoming criminals or even ending up in jail. But that doesn’t mean that there isn’t hope for them. This essay will prove that children under the age of 18 should be charged as juveniles rather than as adults.
Children under the age of 18 still have a lot of growing up to do and haven’t fully matured yet for example, in Texas a 13 year old boy names Duane was arrested for committing a murder during a burglary. He was charged and put into a juvenile facility. A couple months after several counseling he proudly showed his progress in one of his interviews that he had learned new skills in the juvenile facility such as re pairing cars and drawing. Even though he committed a horrible crime all Duane needed was some direction in his life, someone to point him in the right way. If he would have been sent to an adult prison he wouldn’t have the chance to counseling or help of any kind. Also
Others may argue that some teenagers are fully capable of understanding the consequences of their acts and should be tried as adults for crimes they commit. Such as Christopher Simmons a 17 year old boy in high school persuaded two of his closets friends to help him break into a house and tie up anyone who was there. He also told his friends that they would not be charged as an adult because they were under the age of 18 so it wouldn’t be so bad for them. However they ended up getting caught and charged in adult court. But studies have shown why some juvenile offenders are motivated to commit crimes for different reasons experts have argued that most criminal activity is the result of an abusive childhood, economic distress, Ect.
