Motifs represent any symbolic element that effects the story these motifs have the ability to represent the mood of the story. Birds have been hinted in this story from the beginning in, “The bird tribes, light of mind, the races of beasts of prey.” (Sophocles 20). Another time we see the usage of birds is also (Sophocles 38), “Would not perish in the fangs of carrion hounds or any bird of prey”. Prey is used often near this term “bird”. The bird could represent Antigone in a sense since she flew her own path despite her fate inevitably killing her.
