Lawyer and economist, Ben Stein, gives financial advice to his son, Tommy, in the letter, “Birds and Bees? No, Let’s Talk about Dollars and Cents.” Stein argues that with self-disciple, Tommy can achieve wealth. Stein does this by explaining what he had to do to get to where he is now. I agree with Stein because he cared enough to write a letter, has experience, and knows exactly what to do.
Stein felt the need to write a letter to Tommy. This shows me that he really cares, and that he has something really important to tell Tommy. I would be glad to get a letter like this from my parents. It would show me that they are looking out for me, and that they are there for me when I need them. “I think it may be time for me to send you a few thoughts about money.” Stein waited for the right time to send it, so it would be more relevant for Tommy. If Stein sent it too early, Tommy wouldn’t think it mattered. The letter would be pointless if Stein sent it too late. If Stein cared so much to write a letter, then it must be worth listening to what he has to say.

“My grandfathers on both sides came into this country with virtually nothing.” “My father was the first Stein in all of history to have accumulated any real capital.” After hearing this, I know that Stein has been through it all. His grandfathers had nothing, then his father had wealth. Stein experienced what it takes to gain wealth from nothing. It gives me a reason to trust him. It also makes me wonder if Stein’s father had written him a letter about money just like Stein wrote one to Tommy. If it worked for Stein can do it coming from nothing, then Tommy can do it coming from
