The BizCafe simulation is a twenty period long coffee shop simulation. The simulation records everything that a regular business records, from net income to cups sold to cost of utilities. At the end of the simulation, the cumulative results of your coffee shop are given. My coffee shop, Coffee Express, sold 2,255 cups, had a 77% customer satisfaction rate, 60.9% brand awareness, and a net income of $2,773. In starting the simulation, I decided to buy the green theme furniture and the duo coffee press. I decided to choose the green theme furniture because I felt as though it would provide the best aesthetic. I had decided to purchase a paper customer survey, and I did this because it was significantly cheaper than hiring a company. While the cheapest option would have been to not purchase anything for a customer survey then I would have lost a lot of valuable information from my customers. The satisfaction rate for my coffee shop at this point was only at 54% and therefore I wanted to know what I could do to increase my ratings. The choices were to either buy an oven and bake in the coffee shop, or purchase the baked goods from a nearby bakery. I decided to make the baked goods in the coffee shop because it would improve the ambiance and customer satisfaction. I also hired more servers, bringing my total to 18, to improve customer satisfaction, service capacity, and because more employees would be needed to make the baked goods. Within the next period, I had to decide if I wanted to advertise my coffee as fair trade or not. There were more people going to the fair trade coffee shop across the street, but my coffee was not fair trade. The hope would be that the fair trade advertisements would draw in more customers. I chose to not advertise my coffee as fair trade because that would be unethical.
