INTRODUCTION

The film Black hawk down brings out the best of director Ridley Scott and screen play Ken Nolan, with its historically accurate depiction of The Battle of Mogadishu. The setting of this beautiful portray of the one day battle is Mogadishu, Somalia. The action packed film is based the 1993 event in Somalia where U.S.A forces try to capture workers of the Warlord Mohamad Aidid in order to drag him out of hiding , for the murders of un workers he committed. The events are presented accurately. The chronology is in order. The army storms a building and takes hostages. The militia shot a missile at a black bird causing Blackburn to miss the rope going down and fall on his back. They send 3 hmmv for him. They take him on a stretcher. Aidid and his men use an RPG and shot one black hawk 6-1down. Black Hawk 6-4 to go check if there are any survivors in the black hawk. The hostile indigenous people are moving towards the black hawk. Chalk 4 is trying to reach the black hawk before the indigenous people do. Nelson, Twommbly, and Yurk were left behind. They have to stabilize to wounded soldiers in the black hawks.6-4 tale roader is shot off when trying to land.6-4 black hawk goes down too. They send ground troops to get 6-4.Aidids men take Michael Durant as prisoner. The hmmv return to base. They kill Aidid. Hvvm come bake with help from Pakistan and the UN. The film maker uses music, graphic scenes, and heart throbbing moments to influence feelings and emotions. The message of the film was brotherhood, leave no men left behind. Unlike most war films there was a single hero or a squad with identifiable personalities. The heroic icons shown in the film was the soldiers like smith who died trying to save another soldier Norm Hoot who went back to look for the rest of the men still missing. The villainous icons of the movie were Atto, Aidid and his men, and the Somalians. The movie does create the desired effect, the effect of a team effort rather than an individual
