Documents Found in Meth House Bare Inner Workings of Dark Money Group by Kim Barker, ProPublica, and Rick Young and Emma Schwartz, Frontline Oct. 29, 2012, 12:01 a.m.

There was box found in a “meth house” in Colorado that made its way to Montana’s investigator’s office in March 2011. The big deal was the box’s contents puzzled many people because it contained files on 23 conservative candidates in state races in Montana. The box possessed “candidate surveys and mailers that they said were paid for by campaigns, and fliers and bank records from outside spending groups,” explained Kim Baker, Propublica, Rick Young and Emma Schwartz, Frontine on October 29th, 2012. One of the specific folders they investigated from the box was labeled “Montana Bomb.” And apparently, Western Tradition Partnership (WTP), were, was, is taking all the pointing fingers as they were singled out as an outside group pulling candidates’ strings (Propublica). The records had shown that there might have been an illegal “coordination” between the non-profit and candidates for office in 2008 and 2010.

During today’s modern campaign finance it is basically a free-for-all where anything goes, always remember the main major restriction: They are not allowed to coordinate with candidates (Propublica). This is because there is a money cap on the contributions to candidates and parties that way no one is under “direct influence.” Though the funny thing is contributions to outside groups are unlimited.
