Markets naturally have ups and downs; that being said, on October 29th 1929 the stock market plunged on what became known as Black Tuesday. As with many things there are many factors that lead to catastrophe. During the roaring 20’s there was a lot of wealth and prosperity. People invested in the stock market because they thought it was just going to keep going up and to pay for their investments they borrowed money on margin. Ultimately, this crashed and the banks were failing. People were rushing to the banks to withdraw their deposits because they feared that the money would disappear if the bank did. To make things worse there was a severe drought in the Midwest making it impossible to grow crops.
