Blame the Eater, or Not! Who should we really blame about the obesity prevailing? Does the fast food restaurants’ have something to do with it, or is it our own fault? So many families eat fast food everyday just so they don’t have to cook dinner. It is somewhat convenient to them and cheap, so that is where my opinion varies between our own faults and fast food companies fault. Fast food companies tend to always get our attention with their delicious food but when there is always a problem with children and obesity, it tends to be the fast food companies at fault. Zinczenko states, “Before 1994, diabetes in children was generally caused by a genetic disorder-only about 5 percent of childhood cases were obesity-related, or Type 2, diabetes.” (392) But now Type 2 diabetes is at least 30 percent of all new childhood cases. Who should we blame for that? Is it the fast food companies fault for showing us how cheap and delicious food is on television or are we at fault for falling into their trap? I feel that we are at fault for falling into their trap of delicious food but on the other hand it is also the food companies at fault. Every time we order something, the worker always urges you to get something else and when you say no, they still urge for you to get something. Maybe both are at fault, but I see vegans and other people exercise every day without eating fast food, so why can’t we just do what they do? Instead, we are blaming fast food companies on what we consume in our body, especially in our kids bodies as well and we should be blaming ourselves as well. Money to treat Type 2 diabetes skyrocketed tremendously, from $2.6 billion all the way to $100 billion. There is a huge problem with children and obesity and everyone is blaming the food companies. Zinczenko states, “Shouldn’t we know better than to eat two meals a day in fast-food restaurants?” (392) He is right, we should know better not to eat two fast food meals a day. But looking on the other side, the fast food companies aren’t really helping with more than 13,000 McDonalds in our country. Maybe they don’t care about anything, they just want us to eat and eat until we die. But blaming them isn’t going to help this epidemic with children obesity at all. It will probably close some of them down but in later years more and more will be built and we will have no control to stop ourselves to go get it. So looking at two
