After my attendance, Blood at the root was about why we should not be prejudiced against each other. The play tells a story of students in Jena High School in Louisiana who dealt with racist and prejudiced tensions. Several incidents within the high school influenced people's pre convinced opinions from these incidents I felt one of the main themes seen within Blood at the Root was prejudice. To me, prejudice is a portrayal of someone’s opinions of others based on preconceptions and not derived from real experiences or facts.

Asha wanted to publish things about abortion, being gay, racism and Justin would deny the process since he was in charge. The Costumes supported this theme because the students were dressed up as high school students. They all had t-shirts, gym shoes, jeans and a sort of bag or backpack. As when the students who were protesting they all had matching hoodies, shirts and signs. The music that they play during the different events also match the scene. They also spoke about injustices that have been going on in the high school. The journalist Justin, he always had a backpack, computer or was sitting in his desk. Justin was always by himself, which gave the idea he did not have friends. The costumes, props, characters choice shows the theme of students being in a high school dealing with prejudice.

Plot, characters and design elements all contribute to Blood at the Root main theme of why we should not be prejudiced. In the play, it showed how every single character was prejudiced against each other whether because of their race or their beliefs (being gay). Blood on the Root did a good job representing me because we all have prejudices against an individual or a group whether their big or small. As a human being we are not perfect therefore we should learned how to live with each
