Blue Collar Brilliance Analysis

Blue collar workers are known to be part of a middle to lower class group. Although blue collar jobs aren’t very high paying, and most of the workers haven’t had an education past high school, most of their jobs consist of critical thinking, and problem solving. In the article’s “Blue Collar Brilliance” by Mike Rose, and “First, Eat All the Lawyers” by Torie Bosch both authors state how blue-collar workers are more driven to be the best at their job, and have many more skills to be taken into the real world over any other white-collar worker.

While some people believe that blue-collar workers are nothing but low wage middle class laborers who do just enough to get by in todays society, others believe that they are quite the opposite.

In her article “First, Eat All the Lawyers” Bosch uses the popular television show “The Walking Dead” to unfold her personal views and reasons she believes blue-collar workers are better than white collar workers. Bosch claims that “The zombie apocalypse is a white-collar nightmare: a world with no need for the skills we have developed. Lawyers, journalists, investment bankers – they are liabilities, not leaders, in the zombie-infested world. (the exception to this rule, of course, is doctors.)” (Bosch 652). Bosch clearly is for blue-collar workers being a bit more skilled and ready for the real world. She even goes as far as throwing herself into the mix with the white-collar workers and later explains how she wouldn’t know how to survive an apocalypse or real world natural disaster if she had too. Another way Bosch shows her respect for blue-collar workers is she explains how she would be no help herself in a zombie apocalypse and wouldn’t be able to survive without the help of a blue-collar worker. “While watching “The Walking Dead” I am reminded that I would be nothing but a drag in a survivalist scenario” (Bosch 653).
