In the mid-19th century The Harlem Renaissance transpired. This was the birth of the cultural, social, and artistic burst that took place in the New York borough Harlem. At this point in time Harlem was the center for cultural aspects of life, budding black authors, artists, musicians anything you could imagine. Many people made a living off of their talents while others continued to live the normal lifestyle fit for the time frame. All of this revolving around the great economic depression causing many American consumers to lose jobs mainly in the black community. Blues for an Alabama Sky, is a play written by Pearl Cleage that depicts and exemplifies the real struggles of life during that time period for African Americans. …show more content…
That if you really strive to have something great to continue to push until you produced it. “Let the good times roll” (Sam, Blues for an Alabama Sky). A subconscious message in this play is to chase your dreams no matter what. Angel, the main character, had to chase her dreams in spite of the fact that she lost her job and found out her boyfriend has established a relationship with another woman. Guy, the friend who takes care of Angel, also had to chase his dreams besides losing his job as well. They managed to find a way to overcome their adversities.
