Because of urban and agricultural development and many other alterations, 50% of our wetlands have been destroyed nationwide. Wetlands destruction is a very serious problem, specifically here in Southern California where more than 90% of our wetlands have been demolished. Most of the wetlands still in existence are extremely degraded. Over the past few decades, a lot has been altered in the ecological reserve of Bolsa Chica. Much of the wetlands have been destroyed in order to make way for roads and buildings. With all the building of suburbs, more and more of the native fauna, especially birds are en route to being wiped out. It's a serious problem that Bolsa Chica Wetlands
