This experiment models the human body, more so the skeletal system. In this experiment, bones are exposed to water of different pH levels to determine how pH affects the modulus of elasticity of bone. The pH levels of the water reflect the different pHs of the different foods and liquids that we consume. This experiment can show that the acidity of items can affect how hydrating an item is. Not only has pH been associated with the degradation of skeletal structure strictly from corrosiveness, but different pH’s can have an effect on how healthy a certain structure is at a given time. The hypothesis states that if the pH of the water is more neutral, then the bone strength will be greater when the bone strength is a function of the pH level. pH and bone density have a significant relationship as previously stated. This experiment is relevant today because there are more and more people developing diseases such as osteoporosis and osteopenia. These are cases in which the bone density is significantly lower than normal peak density. However, one prevention can include the proper balance of the acidity in diet and in the body, and that is what this experiment is going to find the answer to. It is going to determine the effects of proper pH on the bone, more acidic pH, and more basic pH. The log of seven is ten times stronger than the logarithm of 6, but the logarithmic function of 8 is one hundred times stronger than that of the function of 8. So, in this experiment the pH is being tested from a pH of 5 to the pH of 9, giving a wide range of information to study. Inversely, this experiment could find if the function of strength of the chicken bones is an exponential function. Hydrogen is an important element, and plays a vital role in the body, as it can be utilized in many ways. Using pH as a measure of acidity, this experiment helps to study how the human skeletal system functions, and why it needs a slightly higher than neutral pH to stay healthy. A healthy pH falls between 7.2 and 7.6, which is surprising in way. Despite all the acidic components which make the body function whether it be lactic acid in the muscles, or hydrochloric in the stomach, the systematic pH of the body is actually rather high. Research done in this field shows that most enzymes function optimally at this pH, so it may have been evolutionarily important that most organisms function at this certain acidity, in order to live harmoniously with the bacteria and enzyme which are contained in our skin flora and digestive
