Narratives are able to create different perspectives, using point of view, that contrast from our own world view in such a way that it forces us to reflect and even change the way we perceive the world. The bone sparrow does this by manipulating the point of view of Subhi to offer a deeper insight into a larger issue. Both humour and Subhi's use of language are used to tell a story that ultimately, changed my own perspective of the world.

The humour used in the bone sparrow is able to both allow for a moment of relief in what otherwise might be a depressing story, but also bring to light the horrific conditions Subhi and other refugees live in. After learning about the countless tragedies affecting these people, as shown through the book, my views on refugees changed. Instead of being impartial and unaware towards the crisis, I became familiar and actively tried to bring awareness. The first person point of view used in the book allowed for a deeper emotional connection, while simultaneously revealing the horrific conditions in which the characters live in. I began to realise how much my perspective had changed when I was asked to do a speech on refugees. While I was researching I found a speech that I had done a few years prior on the same topic. After reading it I was surprised as I realised how uneducated and naive I was about the plight of refugees. Before, I was worried about how the refugees would make friends, but now I realise their troubles are so much more than that. After reading the speech, I then registered how my perspective had changed since reading this book. Thanks to Zana Frallion's ability to bring light to a larger issue using different techniques such as humour and language, my perspective on the world had
