Book Buddies Reflection

During the last Book Buddies activity, I was a little disappointed because there was a lack of communication from the school. I could meet with my kindergarten student (Arviante Henderson). Though our time together was limited we could sit down and read a book together. The title of the book was Delightful Delilah. The book was about the journey of a disrespectful duck. In this illustration, the Delilah learned that in order to gain the respect of others you have to give that same respect. Ater the reading, Arviante and I discussed parts of the book. There were instances where he struggled with manipulating the different sounds of the letters and improperly identifying letters to include; letters G, J, M, W, C and K. Moreover, we could go over these sounds and letters to enhance his comprehension skills. During our time, together I could witness a level of progress as well as confidence that built within him. This was my last session and unfortunately, I was not able to meet with my first- grade student. However, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Arvionte. Overall, my Book Buddie participation was a truly fulfilling assignment and I am grateful to have had this opportunity. I learned through my experience the principle thing is not so much that every child should be taught, as every child should be ingrained with the wish to learn. Book Buddies was a meaningful experience for me, I learned that early childhood education can positively shape children's development. Teaching must be good guidance towards your student’s. Creating activities can educate enrich young students' learning abilities, and encourage positive attitudes for students. More importantly, I observed progress in both students. Experiencing the differences in each student helps me to develop my opinion and ideas on what I want to find in my classroom and how I want to handle my students.
