Christine de Pizan’s Book of the City of Ladies is one of the most famous literary works of the Medieval period. The author casts herself as one of the main characters of the book. The work opens with Christine reading different books of famous male poets and philosophers. These writers claim that women are full of sin and inequity. Upon reading these works, Christine is upset of being a woman. Then, three figurative ladies (Reason, Rectitude, and Justice) approaches to Christine and advise her to build the City of Ladies. Christine has populated the city with famous historical and religious women. The three ladies show Christine the value and the importance of women in every society.
