Temperatures get higher than 120 degrees in Sudan, and Salva Dut managed to walk by foot, miles and miles everyday to escape from a war started in his hometown. Salva Dut was put through more than anybody can imagine but he survived, walking prolonged miles day by day, losing the ones he cared about unconditionally, but he was also enlightened by a working well. Salva Dut was the main character in Linda Sue Park’s book, “A Long Walk To Water”. There are many other characters along with Salva. In the book, you will find out where Salva ended up after an unexpected war striked his whole town of Loun-Ariik. Throughout Salva’s journey you’ll see the courage and bravery he shows towards others and where he ends up. Another main character in the book is a girl names Nya. “With the well here, no one will have to go to the pond anymore. So all the children will be able to go to school.”(103). Nya was ecstatic to finally be able to go to school, she wouldn’t have to miss out to go fetch water, she was beyond filled with joy. “But as Nya watched the water spraying out of the borehole, she frowned. The water wasn’t clear. It was brown and heavy-looking. It was full of mud.”(83-84). When Nya realized the unsanitary water was spraying out of the well, she was upset.
