The Giver The Giver was written by Lois Lowry. This is a young adult fiction book because it is not meant for children. The Giver will get the reader interested and it includes a bit of action. This book is about a twelve year old boy, named Jonas, who becomes a Receiver of Memory and protects the one he loves. First, Jonas starts as a normal twelve year old. Then, a Giver comes along and changes Jonas’s life. Jonas suddenly will start to face obstacles. This story mainly takes place in a community. The community is like a present-day fiction area. Jonas is the protagonist; he is a round, dynamic character because he has many traits such as, a Receiver of Memory and having feelings. Jonas also changes throughout the story. Yet, the Giver does not change. Jonas is a twelve, He has a father, mother, and a little sister. Her name is Lilly and she is a seven. Also, soon he will have a baby brother because his father is taking care of him from the Nurturer Center, the baby’s name is Gabe. In the mornings the family has a ritual, when they tell each other the dreams they had. Jonas had an embarrassing dream that he did not want to tell, but he did. In December there is always a ceremony that everyone in the community attends. Then, during the ceremony Jonas was selected to be the next Receiver of Memory. While he has this job, everything he does is a secret and there are many rules he will face. Jonas meets a guy who is also a Receiver of Memory, the old man is the Giver. Since Jonas had this job it would mean he would have to lie to his parents. The Giver took Jonas to the Memory room, he showed him warfare. Twins were going
