A person’s personality is a characteristic that is displayed throughout the entire course of one’s life. Personality is shaped by many qualities that form an individual’s distinctive character. Throughout one’s life everything they partake in contributes to their personality, including: their family, friends, and living conditions. Although two personalities can contain many similarities, there are no identical personalities. Many things about people can be similar, but each person contains numerous unique values that no other person has. Personality is constantly changing. “Borderline personality disorder is a specific type of personality disorder characterized by impulsivity and marked instability involving interpersonal relationships, self-image, and mood” (Reuben, psychologytoday.com). Borderline personality disorder is a serious mental illness that often disrupts family and work life, and the individual’s sense of identity. The development of the illness creates heavy alteration in a person’s long term life. Schizophrenia is another disorder that creates change in personality. “People with the disorder may hear voices other people don't hear. They may believe other people are reading their minds, controlling their thoughts, or plotting to harm them. This can terrify people with the illness and make them withdrawn or extremely agitated” (What is Schizophrenia, nimh.nih.gov). This disorder can cause changes in personality due to the disturbing and overwhelming unusual brain activity a person will experience. Schizophrenia is a disorder that develops over the span of a person’s life. This creates viewable changes in someone’s personality because of the personality that was previously displayed before the disorder was diagnosed.
