In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain (1884/1994), the author illustrates that Christians are hypocritical and gullible. When Huck visits the Phelps family who believes his pseudonym, he says to himself, “But if they was joyful, it warn’t nothing to what I was; for it was like being born again. I was so glad to find out who I was” (Twain, 1884/1994, p. 296). The phrase “born again”" is one that Christians use repeatedly. Because of this, the phrase has begun to appear meaningless, and nonbelievers perceive the phrase as a lie.
