The British government caused the rebellion by trying to tax the colonists in ways that had not previously been done. The unprotection of the colonists was lead by the Boston Massacre, Boston Tea Party, and the Battle of Bunker Hill. The colonists were justified in wanting independence with England for three reasons: failure to protect political freedoms, economic wellbeings, and safety for the colonists.
