On December 16, 1773 in Boston Massachusetts a band of American colonists boarded three ships and threw 342 chests of tea overboard in protest of the British tax. This event is know as the “Boston Tea Party”. The Boston Tea Party pushed Britain and America closer to war, which started the American Revolution in 1775. Joanne Freeman from Yale University stated that the American colonists just wanted to make a point that the tax was bad and the colonists were going to show that by destroying the tea. This evidence is significant as it explains how the colonists were trying to make a point on how much they despised the tax. The Boston Tea Party was significant because it led to the American Revolution.
