Introduction
In this assignment, I will be reflecting on bowel opening which me and my colleague did as part of our routine in our first clinical placement. I will be using Gibbs 1978 reflective cycle model as it is considered to be fairly straightforward. This reflective cycle model is divided into six stages, which will start of with clear description of the events, then the analysis of feeling and the evaluation of the events, for instance the good and bad side. I will then discuss the upside and downside of the event, followed by the conclusion and the action plan for future references.
The main purpose of this reflective essay is so we could learn about our mistake and improve ourselves to being a better person, better care giver and nurse in the upcoming future. As Schon (1983) defines, reflective practice as the practice by which professionals become aware of their implicit knowledge base and learn from their experience. It was peak hour in the ward, when my colleague called me to help her to attend to a patient under her care in Bay 1, Siti Fatimah (pseudonym) of bed 8 as she had requested for her diaper to be changed. We went straight to the utility room and gather anything we can think of that would be useful in this procedure. We, however, are not accompanied by any mentor or assesor as all the staff nurses were busy. We then went straight to the bed, drawn the curtain close and ask consent from the patient as it is one of the most important factor in this profession, telling her that we are going to change her
