Scientists found evidence that bowling was invented in 3200 B.C.E in Egypt. They also think that in 1366 there was a form of bowling but it was outlawed to keep troops focused on archery practice. However scientists are sure that their was a form of bowling during King Henry VIII time around 1477. During this time their were a lot of different types of pin games that are mostly related to Italian bocce or British lawn bowling. Bowling has a long and rich history and has changed drastically over the years.

When bowling started in Egypt it was drastically different from the way they played to the balls they used. Egyptians used stones that they wore down into a sphere as their bowling balls. Their land was about four meters long, twenty centimeters wide, and had a ten centimeter square opening at its center, unlike modern lanes which are about 107 centimeters wide and 18 meter long. The goal of the Egyptian bowling was to throw a small ball and a big ball at the same time and the person who threw the small ball would try to stop the big ball from getting in to the center square. This may not be the same as modern day bowling however this is where scientist believe the idea originated at.

They used bowling as a way to tell if someone was living a pure life. They would set up pins towards the end of a cloister, and those pins represented a heathen. The person throwing the pins would try to hit them a hit meant they were pure, they missed meant that they were a heathen. Bowling wasn't used as a game as much of a way to determine if a person was bad or good. The heathen was encouraged to try later on, so in all reality it was all up to chance to see if you were marked as a heathen or were pure of
