Identify and define a contemporary law reform issue: Alcohol and violence has been a large issue in Australia, the government has only just decided to put a stop to the violence due to alcohol in Australia. Contemporary law reform issues being put in place include: 1:30am lockouts in pubs, clubs and bars, last drinks to be served at 3 am, precinct banning orders to remove troublemakers, risk based licensing scheme, freeze on granting new license, eight year sentencing for alcohol related king hit deaths, increased on the spot fines for anti social behaviour and no take-away alcohol after 10pm across NSW.

Describe conditions that give rise to the need for law reform: On new years eve 2013, an 18 year old Daniel Christie was punched and horribly injured by Shaun Mcneil. He was punched once in the head which caused him to fall and fracture his skull. Mcneil had consumed a large amount of alcohol at this point of action. Christie's life support was turned off on Saturday 11th January and died later that day. This incident took place in almost the exact place where Thomas Kelly was "king hit" in July 2012.

Agencies of reform: Agencies with a direct interest in reducing alcohol related harm include the Alcohol Advisory Council of Australia, the Australian Police Department, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Youth Development, the Australian Government and the Accident Compensation Corporation.
