Ar~ was alert and engaging throughout the session. He required maximal verbal, visual, and kinesthetic cues to discriminate two social greetings (i.e., hello vs. good-bye). He identified “hello” in 1/4 trials and good-bye in 3/4 trials. He required maximal verbal and kinesthetic cues to select an activity, in which he made 4 selections. Throughout the session, Ar~ required additional time to visually scan the items presented and the PECS symbols were rearranged to confirm his selection. In addition, a total communication approach, (American Sign Language, PECS, verbal productions) was implemented to optimize communication. During a structured activity to establish rapport, Aa~ demonstrated a positive affect, independently completed a 2-step directive with two embedded concepts (temporal, sequential markers), and answered 3 wh- questions. Aa~ identified 4/8 components of Braidy’s Complete Episode with moderate verbal cues. She watched a short story film, which was used to elicit predictive and story grammar questions. During a conversational exchange to establish rapport, Des~ displayed a positive affect, independently engaged in conversation, and answered 5 wh- questions about her favorite activities. During a review of the parts of speech, Des~ discriminated 3/4 categories (noun, verb, adjective) and stated that she has difficulty differentiating between pronouns and adjectives.
