Brain Doyle's Essay 'Joyas Voladoras'

I liked the topic of Brain Doyle’s essay “ Joyas Voladoras “, because in his essay he used to compare and contrast the heart of two different type of creatures. He grabbed my attention from the first sentence when he began by describing and listing the features of the hummingbird because it is my first time to read or to know about this small birds. His words made me imagine how that bird look like and how small it is. I was surprised when I read, “A hummingbird’s heart is the size of a pencil eraser.”(159), because I never thought that it is this small.
In addition to that, I also liked the information that he provided about the huge blue whale. The facts that he mentioned about its size was interesting to read. However, after reading the essay, I realized that he did not compare and contrast the two creatures equally. Then, I assumed that the writer may assume that the reader has a background information about the blue whale since it is more known than the hummingbird. I also did not get the point of his choice and why specifically he chose these two animals to compare their heart? If it is because of their sizes, simply I can say that all the hearts are the same because they are functioning in the same way and that

Hummingbirds, blue whale, other creatures such as fishes and insects and human are all living with a heart, which is the reason for being alive. His essay reminded my about my heart and my experience with it, and I started to think about it and related it the information given. At a stage in my life, I was suffering from the abnormality of the heart beats, a very fast one which known as Tachycardia, because of that I liked to learn more about the heart. When Doyle’s said, “their hearts hammering faster than we could clearly hear…” (159), I remembered the sound that I used to hear a lot, and that helped me to imagine how fast the hummingbird's heart beats
