The adult age in the United States is considered to be 18 years old. At 18 years old you become an adult and you are basically responsible for your own decisions on what you do with your life. When you are considered the adult age, you are able to buy cigarettes, vote, buy any property, move out of parent’s house and even join the military. If young adults can fight, serve and die for their country at age 18, then why are they not allowed to hold a beer in their hand? In the eyes of the law, 18 is a good age to be an adult, but why is alcohol not an option to purchase at this age. Underage drinkers always find a way to get alcohol without even walking into the store. So why not lower the age if they are able to get it without being the legal age? No matter what happens they are still getting the alcohol and having it in their possession. I can assure you that if the drinking age was to be lowered the percentages of deaths and accidents would drop tremendously. Buying alcohol is the only thing most teens look forward to as to being a “full adult”. Some reasons that teens drink are for the enjoyment, impressing friends, peer pressure, and mainly because it is simply breaking the law. By reading statistics in other countries it is worth a shot to change the age and see the percentages drop by reckless teen alcohol abusers. If it does not work and if it seems that it is worse, than the age should go back up to 21 years old. The laws always change so it is not a bad thing to see if this change can actually make a difference and help drop the percentages of teen deaths in the United States.
