The Other Wes Moore Most people don’t know what to expect of their future. Some just go with the flow, yet some actually do something in order to get it in a certain path. Most of the time no one knows in what direction their lives will be headed. In the book, The Other Wes Moore by Wes Moore, Wes described his life and the life of another Wes Moore. Moore claims about how in a sense their lives could’ve been switched. I do believe that the story about both Wes’s could’ve been vice versa because maybe Wes’s mother wouldn’t have sent him to military school, so Wes would’ve done as he wished. The other Wes’s mom could’ve done something to help out her son and get him in the right path and help him get out of drug dealing and go back to school. Each Wes took on their own path, and there’s a reason why they turned out the way they did. His mom seemed selfish. She only cared about her education. She would go out to the clubs and leave Wes home alone. She didn’t care if Wes skipped school or not. She just laughed when Wes went out and got drunk with his friends. “She flushed it away once, and then again until the water in the bowl returned to its normal clarity.” (Moore 73). Mary was upset that now Wes was dealing drugs too, but she didn’t really do much about it. All she did was flush the drugs down the toilet, but she didn’t seem to care. When Wes left the house, she just let him go. She didn’t stop him and tell him that he can’t leave whenever he wants. Mary just let him go and let him do what he wanted. She didn’t straighten him up and tell him he had to go to school. She also once had weed stashed in her closet where it was easily seen.
