Dred Scott was born in 1795 (the exact date is still unknown). Dred Scott was born into slavery, and relocated to Huntsville. When his slave owner, Peter Blow died, he was sold to a U.S. army doctor, John Emerson. He fell in love with the slave of another army doctor, a 19 yr old Harriet Robinson. Later on, Dr. Emerson traveled to Illinois and Wisconsin, which banned slavery. When Emerson died, Dred tried to buy his freedom, but was turned down. He battled in court for his legal freedom. This became so large that it eventually went to the Supreme Court. However, the Supreme Court Justice said that since Dred Scott wasn’t an actual citizen, he couldn’t rule on his behalf. As a result, Scott and his family still belonged to the brother
