In Sophia’s War by Avi, the story begins with Sophia having twelve years of age in 1776. Most of the time, she sticks with her mother wherever she roams. Her brother, William has been missing for a few days. Her father, mother, and herself had to travel somewhere far away from home because of the British soldiers invading their hometown. After a few days of being out of town, Sophia’s father decided that it would best if Sophia and her mother went back home. He would return but later when it was safer for him to travel. While walking home, Sophia and her mother encountered the hanging of Captain Hale. From that moment on, Sophia’s life would soon be changed.
